The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kwara State chapter, Mr Murtala Olayinka, on Tuesday urged government at all levels to find pragmatic means of easing the economic hardship of Nigerians.

Olayinka made the call while speaking to journalists on the plight of  civil servants in Kwara State.

He noted that many civil servants had resorted to trekking to their various offices because of the scarcity of cash, as they had no money for transportation or purchase petrol for their vehicles.

Olayinka particularly urged the Kwara State Government to liaise with appropriate authorities to release old Naira notes into circulation to ease the hardships facing by people.

He, however, urged government at all levels to intervene and initiate price-control activities to save Nigerians from extortion.

The NLC chairman bemoaned the poor minimum wage of workers, saying that the salary could no longer take care of address the fast increasing prices of commodities in the market.

Olayinka said that the government should look at designing a workable price control system in the country.

He also urged the Ministry of Environment to be more meticulous in the evacuation of garbage from bins stationed at different areas of the state.

“Those in charge of the exercise often leave the roads littered and dirty with remnants of the refuse,” he said.
