The Niger State House of Assembly has called on the executive arm of government to fish out the killers of Rev. Fr. Isaac Achi in Kafin-Koro, Paikoro Local Government of the state.
The House made the call in Minna on Thursday, following a motion moved, under Matters of Urgent Public Importance, by Assemblyman Andrew Jagaba (APC-Munya) during its plenary session.
The Speaker, Abdullahi Bawa, while reading out the resolutions of the House on the motion, called on the state government to, as a matter of urgency, deploy resources towards apprehending the killers.
He said that the state government should also carry out its constitutional duty of protecting the lives and property of citizens.
Besides, Bawa said that a delegation should be sent to condole with the Catholic Diocese of Minna and the family of the deceased.
Earlier in the motion, Jagaba said that Section 14 (2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, provides that “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government”.
The lawmaker recalled that Rev. Fr. Achi of St. Paul and Peter’s Catholic Church, Kafin-Koro, was killed by unknown assassins at the parish residence on Jan. 15.
