Gov. Diri vows to depose any traditional ruler involved in partisans politics

By Shedrack Frank, Yenagoa.

Gov. Douye Diri of Bayalsa has vowed to depose any traditional ruler who allows politicians to intimidate voters in the state during the forthcoming general elections.

He gave the warning on Monday in Yenagoa, during the launch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign for Bayelsa Central Senatorial District.

According to him, government will sanction any community ruler that engages in such act.

Diri urged the people of the state to support all the PDP candidates during the elections, so as to enable the party to correct the economic woes perpetrated in the country.

He assured the people that the presidential candidate of PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had what it took to reposition the country.

He said: “As for traditional rulers, anyone who allows politicians to deprive other people from exercising their civic right would be dealt with.

“Traditional rulers should desist from partisan politics and the youths should not allow themselves to be used as instrument of violence.

“Our party will continue to bring development, infrastructure, human capital development in our dear state.

“I, therefore, urge you to give your mandate to PDP for more dividends of democracy,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr. Solomon Agwanana, the state PDP Chairman, said that the strength of PDP depended on all the citizens who supported the achievements of Gov. Diri.

He urged the people to vote for the PDP in the coming elections.
