Remembrance Day: AbdulRazaq extols Nigerian Armed Forces

By Toba Ajayi, Ilorin.

Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State on Sunday extolled the commitment and loyalty of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the service of the country.

AbdulRazaq praised the military at the Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service organized to commemorate the Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal Week at Mount Olive Anglican Church, Ilorin.

The governor was represented by the Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi, according to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Mrs Modupe Joel.

AbdulRazaq governor asserted that the courageous Nigerians had obeyed Biblical injunctions on service.

These heroes, he said, “served their country and offered their lives as a ransom for the preservation of the nation.”

The governor appreciated the efforts and sacrifice of the Nigerian Armed Forces in maintaining peace, security and tranquillity in the state and beyond.

AbdulRazaq, therefore, called on the people to support and cooperate with members of the Nigerian Armed Forces to combat security challenges which undermined the stability of our nation.

The former state Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Evang. Timothy Opoola, in his sermon, said: “Sacrifice is an expression of love. When you love, you give all.”

He urged the people not to be afraid to make any sacrifice but to live a life of sacrifice to God and fellow humans.

In his remarks, the CAN Chairman in Kwara, Bishop Sunday Adewole, called on government at all levels to do more in supporting the armed forces.

Adewole encouraged the military to continue discharging its duties with utmost professionalism.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed every Jan. 15, in honour of fallen heroes of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
