Operatives of the Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested a 19-year-old man, Jason Joseph, who allegedly used dangerous weapons to rob people in Lagos traffic.
The arrest is revealed in a statement posted on Tuesday on RRS’ official Twitter handle.
The RSS said that the suspect, a member of a three-man gang that had been operating on Otedola Bridge, Lagos, between 9:00p.m. and 5:00a.m., was arrested on Dec.10.
“Jason was arrested when one of his victims spotted him in the area at 5a.m. and alerted the RRS team in the area.
“He has repeatedly confessed to the police that he operated with three other suspects, who live in Oshodi and operate on Otedola Bridge from 9:00p.m. till dawn,” it stated.
It said that the gang, which was formed shortly after #EndSARS protests, used dagger and jack knife to rob people in traffic and had been involved in many robberies in the area.
The RRS said that the suspect’s arrest coincided with the charge by the RRS Commander, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi, to the team covering the area to apprehend all the criminals in that area.
The squad said the suspect was cooperating with it, in efforts to arrest other members of the gang.
