A delegation of the West African College of Physicians on Thursday inspected the newly created Department of Family Medicine at the General Hospital, Ilorin.

The inspection was part of the requirements for accreditation of the programme.

The hospital had been earlier accredited to train resident doctors.

This is coming after it was adjudged fit by the Faculty Board of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.

Dr Adefemi Samuel, leader of the delegation, explained that the college was at the hospital to inspect the newly created Department of Family Medicine.

He expressed satisfaction with the basic amenities made available by the management.

According to him, facilities include electricity, water and walkways, as well as other basic amenities required of a new medical department.

He encouraged the hospital to further build the capacity of relevant staff with adequate training to achieve high level of professionalism.

Samuel also advised the management to digitise the Records Unit for easy storage and retrieval of data, while commending the hospital for keeping the environment tidy and hygienic for public health safety.

Responding, Dr Ahmed Abdulkadir, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, commended the team for the visit and their objective assessment of the health facility.

He said management had taken note of their observations and promised to work on them.
