NDLEA prosecutes teenager for alleged drug trafficking

By Sandra Umeh, Lagos.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday charged a 19-year-old unemployed man, Abdullahi Aliyu, at the Federal High Court in Lagos for alleged drug trafficking.

In the five-count charge sheet bordering on illegal peddling of restricted narcotics, counsel to NDLEA, Mr Lambert Nor, alleged that Aliyu committed the offence on Oct. 13 at the Alaba Rago market area of Ojo, Lagos.

He alleged that the suspect was caught with 1.2 kilograms of Tramadol, 32 grams of Rophynol and 2 kiloggrams of Diazepam.

The NDLEA said that the drugs were categorised as restricted narcotics, prohibited under the NDLEA Act.

It said that aliyu’s offence contravened the provisions of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap No 30, Laws of the Federation 2004.

The law provides a penalty of life imprisonment, if a suspect is convicted of the offence.

A date has yet to be fixed for arraignment of the suspect.
