The Police Command in Ogun State says it has arrested a 36-year-old man, Sikiru Ajibola, who allegedly raped 5-year-old boy to death in the Ogijo neighbourhood of Sagamu Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ogun, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement in Abeokuta on Saturday.
Oyeyemi said that the suspect was arrested on Friday, following a report lodged at Ogijo divisional police headquarters by the Community Development Association Chairman of Olorunwa Arogbeja Ogijo.
He said that the chairman had reported that one of the community members informed him that the suspect had unlawful carnal knowledge of the boy, while the boy consequently died in the process.
The PPRO said that upon the receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Ogijo Police Division, Enatufe Omoh, quickly detailed his detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed engaging in homosexuality and that while he was having sex with the boy, he died.
“He confessed further that he quickly dug a shallow grave in a nearby bush, where he hurriedly buried the boy.
“He has also taken policemen to where the deceased was buried,” Oyeyemi said.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
