Lalong promises to complete Jos stadium

By Martha Agas, Jos..

Plateau State Gov. Simon Lalong has restated his commitment to completing the construction of the Jos Stadium on Zaria Road.

The governor gave the assurance on Monday at the Tee-off of the Golf kitty at the Lamingo Golf Club, Jos, as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s Independence Day.

He said that the stadium was one of the legacies he would love to leave behind after the completion of his tenure.

Lalong explained that construction work on the stadium was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic and other economic challenges in the country.

He also said that a new contractor for the project would be engaged to continue works on the stadium project and ensure its completion.

“The new contractor has come to buy off the debt and complete the Jos Stadium.

“I am hoping in the next few weeks, we will be able to complete negotiations and take over the completion of the stadium,” he said.

The governor assured Plateau people that his administration was determined to support sports development in the state, especially at the grassroots.

Lalong described the golf tournament as the special kitty organised during independence day celebrations since the inception of his administration.

He said that the event would mark his last kitty as the governor of the state and hoped that it would be sustained even after tenure.

The foundation for the 30,000 capacity stadium located at Zaria Road, Jos, was laid in 1988, and it was designed to meet international standard and generate revenue for the state.
