Air force chief says physical, mental fitness enhances professionalism

Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Abubakar Abdulkadir, Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Special Operations Command, has called on the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel to engage in constant physical and mental exercises to enhance their professionalism.


Abdulkadir made the appeal at the NAF Base, Bauchi, 2022 annual 10-kilometre walk/jog on Saturday in Bauchi.


He said that the maintenance of physical fitness would enhance the troops’ combat readiness, especially at this time when the Armed Forces of Nigeria were confronted with security challenges.


“We must not relent in our efforts at ensuring that physical fitness occupies an enviable place in the service, as it enhances professionalism,” he said.


Abdulkadir, represented by AVM Usman Abdullahi, Chief of Staff, Special Operations Command, said that the exercise was aimed at promoting comradeship and esprit de corps among the personnel, as well as physical and combat fitness to enhance NAF operations.


In a remark, retired Brig.-Gen. Markus Yake, Special Adviser to Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Security, encouraged the air force personnel to maintain their physical and mental fitness for operational readiness.


He commended the NAF for supporting the state and security agencies in sustaining the existing peace in the state.


According to him, the state government will continue to support the security agencies, in their efforts to ensure the peaceful co-existence of the people of the state.


The security agencies that participated in the exercise include the Nigeria Customs Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,


Others are the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Department of State Service, the Federal Road Safety Corps, among others.
