The Police Command in Sokoto State has rescued a female victim of human trafficking and arrested two facilitators at Illela border town.

The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Mr Mohammed Gumel, made the disclosure, while addressing newsmen in Sokoto on Monday.

He said that the action was part of the mandate of X-SQUAD Quick Reaction Force, which was recently launched by the command.

“It is in pursuance of this mandate, the command, on Sept. 2, responded to a distress call by one of the migrants who was trapped at Illela border town near Niger Republic.

“In her statement during the call, she said that while her handler was making effort to smuggle her across the border, she sighted a police patrol team that directed her to hide, which she complied,” he said.

Gumel added it was at that point she made a call to the spokesman of the command, who immediately alerted the police patrol team at Illela, which traced and rescued the victim.

He said the quick reaction force also arrested the two facilitators, one at Illela and the second one in the Sokoto metropolis.

“Meanwhile, concerted efforts are ongoing to round up all the members of the cartel,” he added.

The police commissioner, however, urged parents and guardians to always monitor the activities of their children and wards under their care.

Gumel also called on the general public to continue to support security agencies, in their efforts toward addressing all forms of crimes and criminality across the state.
