The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Sokoto State Command, has arrested a suspected drugs dealer, Umar Mohammed, the village head of Ruga in Shagari Local Government Area of the state.
Briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Sokoto, Mr Adamu Iro, the NDLEA Commander in Sokoto State, said that the suspect was arrested following intelligence-driven investigation by the command.
Iro said that the suspect, who was a traditional title holder, had been on the suspects watch-list of the command for a long period of time.
“Earlier, we arrested his wife in possession of large amount of illicit drugs, but we released her following an investigation that the items belonged to the husband.
“So, on Monday, we have been able to nab him and we found 436.381 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa and 1 kilogram of Diazepam at his residence,” he said.
Iro said that the suspect had since admitted to committing the offence, adding that he also informed NDLEA operatives that he had been in the business for a long period of time.
He said that the command would ensure proper but speedy investigation of the matter before prosecuting the suspect.
The commander assured the citizens of the NDLEA’s determination to raid all drug traffickers’ dens and ensure that they were apprehended and prosecuted accordingly.
He urged the general public to continue to support the agency toward achieving its mandate of ending any form of drug abuse in the society.
