House of Reps summons Ag. ITF D-G for allegedly operating unapproved budget

The House of Representatives’ Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has summoned the Acting Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Mrs Adesola Taiwo.

This is sequel to the alleged operation of the agency’s budgets from 2018 to 2021, without the requisite approval of the National Assembly.

Rep. Busayo Oluwole Oke, the Chairman of the committee, issued the summon on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said that the House would commence probe into the strange discovery, directing the Clerk of the Committee to write a formal letter on the finding to the Clerk of the National Assembly and the Clerk of the House

He demanded for evidence of the conveyance of the agency’s annual budgets, in the years under review, from the Presidency to the National Assembly.

The committee pledged to uncover the circumstances surrounding the operation of unapproved budgets by the agency, contrary to the provisions of Section 81 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended)

Oke said that the constitution empowered the President to convey the annual budgets of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government to the National Assembly every fiscal year for approval.

He expressed the displeasure of the committee over the absence of the Acting Director-General of ITF, as she was represented by Director of Finance and Administration, Yusuf Abdulmajid.

Oke described it as unacceptable and directed the acting director-general to report physically unfailingly next Tuesday.

He said that the acting director-general should come and clarify certain issues regarding the allegations levelled against the agency.

He said that it was unfortunate that the ITF boss resorted to staying away and sending her subordinates to the House.

He described the action as a slap in the face of the parliament.
