The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) on Thursday inaugurated a rice processing mill in Bajabure, Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa.
The mill was handed over to Paracote Association for management.
Dr Obadiah Noah, Coordinator of FMARD in Adamawa, said that the project intended to create employment opportunities for the youth, enhance wealth creation and promote food security in the country.
“This is an established rice mill provided with destoner and it is part of the 2020 projects executed by the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture.
“This project is intended to provide job opportunities for our youth, create wealth and also promote food security,’’ he said.
Noah said that agriculture was presently being treated as a business and no longer as a pastime; hence the need for the youth to engage in productive farming, while maintaining the mill for more profit.
He advised the association to take the advantage of the mill to create wealth for its members and impact positively on the community.
Mr Musa Audu, the President of Paracote Association, lauded the Federal Government for the rice mill and solicited the provision of 50 KVA generator and storage facility to enhance its operations.
Audu said that the association had initiated moves to connect the facility with the national grid to enable it to begin hitch-free operations.
