Police seek Kubwa residents’ cooperation for effective policing

The Police Area Commander in Kubwa, ACP Sani Aliyu, on Tuesday urged the residents of Kubwa in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to cooperate with the police in ensuring effective policing and safety in the neighbourhood.

Aliyu, who made the plea during a sensitisation programme in Abuja, said that the programme was aimed at building robust relations between the police and the FCT communities.

The event was organised by the FCT Police Command Community Policing Project.

According to Aliyu, the event will create an avenue to aid the fulfilment of security strategies and efficient policing.

The area commander also said that the programme was designed as a unique opportunity to foster outreach, build public consensus and advocate the intensification of the community policing agenda of the Nigerian Police.

Aliyu said that the police had designed pragmatic programmes, which involved schools via sports and literature and town hall meetings, to discuss the security challenges facing the communities.

He noted that during such meetings, the communities usually presented their sincere observations about the activities of the police wthin their neighbourhoods.

“We want to engage the youth, who are the main target, to work with the police; by so doing, they will shun social vices and crimes,” he said.

In her speech, Mrs Nana Dahiru advised all “parents to always watch what their children and wards are doing at their spare time”.

Also, Chief Bolaji Adigun, Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee in FCT, noted that community policing was a way of fostering community participation in the security project.

The sensitisation programme is expected to hold simultaneously in all six area councils in the FCT.

The event in Kubwa had the attendance residents from Byazhin, Zuba, Dutse- Alhaji and Mpape zones.
