Police arrest 7 suspects over cultism, other criminal offences in FCT

The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) says it has arrested seven suspects over cultism, armed robbery and kidnapping in Kabusa, Bwari, Kwali, Gwagwalada and Abaji neighbourhoods of the territory.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the FCT, ASP Mariam Yusuf, said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

She said that the suspects were arrested during different coordinated police operations in January.

Yusuf said that exhibits seized from the suspects included six locally-fabricated pistols, eight unexpended cartridges, one saw, one hammer, one cutlass and one jack-knife.

She said that two of the suspects were arrested over armed robbery and attempted kidnapping of their victim in Abaji.

She said that the items recovered from the two suspects included one mobile phone, two cutlasses and N60,000 cash belonging to their victim.

The police spokesperson said that the suspects would be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations.

Yusuf urged FCT residents to remain calm and law-abiding, while complying with all COVID-19 regulations.

She pledged the unflinching commitment of the police command to the protection the lives and property of FCT residents.

The PPRO urged residents to call the command on 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883 in distress and emergency situations or if there was need to report suspicious movements in their neighbourhoods.

She added that the members of the public could also lodge complaints on the conduct of police officers via the Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) on 09022222352.
