Yuletide: Niger govt. urges residents to adhere to COVID-19 protocols

The Niger State Government on Thursday urged the residents to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 protocols, while celebrating the Christmas.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Muhammad Idris, said in a statement in Minna that the people’s observance of the protocols would prevent the spread of coronavirus in the state.

“While we celebrate the Yuletide, it is pertinent to remind us on the adherence to safety protocols, namely physical and social distancing by the general public.

“The fight against the dreaded virus in the state will only succeed if the people of Niger adhere strictly to the safety protocols of COVID-19, so as to help stop the spread,’’ he said.

Besides, Idris called on the Christians to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ during and after the Christmas, in order to have a secure and peaceful society.

“I wish to urge all and sundry to use the Christmas season to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ and to extend the Christmas cheers throughout the entire New Year and beyond,” he said.

The commissioner wished the citizens a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

“I wish to enjoin all the people of Niger to reflect and exhibit the fact that this is the season to wish one another joy, love and peace.

“On behalf of the state government, we rejoice bountifully with our Christian brothers and sisters in yet another season of joy and thanksgiving, in cerebrating the year 2020 Christmas season, as well as the forthcoming New Year,’’ he said.
