The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa, Mr Mike Okoli, has suspended all casual leave and directed all officers of the command to be on red alert during the coming festive season.

He gave the directive on Friday night at the Police Officers Mess in Yenagoa, during the end-of-year gathering of senior police officers.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Asinmi Butswat, on Saturday said that Okoli also directed the Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Department in the command to rejig their crime fighting strategy.

Besides, the police commissioner enjoined the officers to enhance police visibility across the state to ensure peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration.

“The Command, hereby, reiterates the ban on the use of knockouts and unauthorised fireworks during the festive season.

“Parents and guardians are advised to warn their wards to desist from using knockouts, as policemen will be out to arrest anyone who violates this order,” he said.

Okoli assured members of the public of a peaceful festive season, while soliciting their cooperation with the police in efforts promote the security of the state.
