COVID-19: Gov. Umahi orders compulsory use of face mask

Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi has ordered the compulsory use of face mask across the state, as part of the efforts to contain the second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Umahi gave the order on Friday in Abakaliki at a news conference organised in reaction to the reported spike in COVID-19 cases across the country.

He also suspended all forms of large gatherings, including Christmas parties, and directed that church services in the state should not last for more than two hours.

“From today, Friday, Dec. 18, we are going to reactivate COVID-19 protocols in all public places.

“The resurgence of the COVID-19 in the country is already disturbing. Church services should not last for more than two hours.

“There should be compulsory use of face mask among citizens of the state. Avoid any large gathering; the usual night carols and parties have been suspended.

“We must always observe all the COVID-19 protocols, especially in all public places,” the governor added.
