Ogun govt. to renovate parks, garages to boost transportation – Commissioner

The Ogun State Government has announced plans to upgrade its parks and garages across the state for better transport service delivery to the people.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Gbenga Dairo, made the announcement at an interactive session in Abeokuta on Saturday with stakeholders in the state’s transportation sector.

He said that the government would partner with the private sector for the development and transformation of the parks and garages.

He said that the government’s programme, tagged “Emerging Transport Sector Policy”, had become necessary to keep stakeholders, including traffic enforcement agencies, abreast of international best practices in the industry.

The commissioner said that the programme would enhance better understanding of the vision of the state government, particularly in efforts to exchange ideas and create synergy towards the development of the state’s transportation system.

“The motivation that drives the activities of the ministry is the vision of Gov. Dapo Abiodun, which is to create a viable transportation system with safety, efficiency, and affordability.

“The vision can be achieved through harmonious working relationships of stakeholders and principal actors in the ministry, who are in charge of the formulation and implementation of policies,” he said.

Earlier, in his address, Mr Tokunbo Saraki, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), said that the government was committed to creating a transportation system that would further make life easier for its citizens.

In his remarks, Mr Habeeb Ajayi, the Chairman, Park and Garages Development, expressed the readiness of the agency to partner with other principal actors, outside the ministry, for the implementation of government policies and programmes.

He pledged that practical steps would be taken to ensure that life was made easier for the people via affordable, accessible and effective transportation system in the state.
