Court remands police officer for alleged murder in Ekiti

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a police officer, Tizhe Goji, 38, in correctional centre for allegedly killing of a 32-year-old man.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Caleb Leranmo, told the court that the accused allegedly committed the offence on at Queen’s Court in Ado-Ekiti.

Leranmo said that Goji, a policeman in Ekiti State Police Command, shot and killed Abayomi Olaoye at a drinking joint on Nov. 21.

According to him, his offence is punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

The prosecutor claimed that he had submitted a duplicate of the case file to the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The accused, however, did not make any plea but his counsel, Mr Ola Abiola, applied for a short adjournment, pending the outcome of the advice from the DPP.

Chief Magistrate Abdulhamid  Lawal consequently ordered that Goji be remanded in correctional centre, pending the reception of the legal advice from the DPP.

He adjourned the case to Dec. 17 for further hearing.
