LASWA donates 250 lifejackets for passenger safety on waterways

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has donated 250 lifejackets to ferry operators at the Ikorodu terminal to promote the safety of commuters on the waterways during the “ember months”.

The General Manager of LASWA, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, made this known via a statement, after the distribution of the lifejackets at Ipakodo ferry terminal in Ikorodu on Tuesday.

He said that LASWA had taken its waterways safety campaign, which began few months ago, to various jetties and terminals across all zones along the inland waterways of Lagos State

Emmanuel said that safety information booklets and flyers containing emergency numbers, with passenger’s safety guidelines translated into local languages, were also given to ferry commuters to boost their confidence in inland water transportation.

He said that the LASWA was committed to the regular distribution of life jackets to boat operators, riverine communities, school children and other waterways users to improve commuters’ safety on waterways across the state.

Emmanuel also said that the constant distribution of safety kits had encouraged more people to use water transportation, while decongesting traffic on roads in the state.
