The Management of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, has honoured two outgoing NYSC members, who are also alumni of the university, for their outstanding performance and contributions to the development of the institution.
The corps members, Messrs Adeniji James and Abraham Akinola, were honoured at a brief ceremony held on the university campus in Ado Ekiti.
A statement by Mr Bode Olofinmuagun, the Head, Directorate of Information, EKSU, on Sunday in Ado Ekiti said the two corps members served in the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of the university for their primary assignments.
He said that during the period, the duo developed a very robust portal for the university, which could easily be used for different applications, including computation of students’ results, admission, certificates, transcripts, virtual learning, among others.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, said that the university management had expressed appreciation to the duo and assured them of the maximum support of the university to enable them pursue their careers.
He also expressed the readiness of the university to retain them in its service.
Earlier, the Director of ICT, Prof. Olu Olatunji, stated that the portal which James and Akinola developed could rank among the best portals in the country.
He stressed that the portal would be beneficial to the university community, as there would no longer be any need to engage a third-party vendor for the management of the university portal.
Responding, James and Akinola expressed their appreciation to the university management for the honour and promised to give their best back to the university, which incidentally was their alma mater.
James graduated from the Department of Computer Engineering, while Akinola graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering and they both graduated with Second Class (Upper Division).
The highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of letters of appreciation/commendation by the university management to the two alumni.
