IGP urges Imo police command not to be deterred by effect of #EndSARS protest

The Inspector-General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, has urged officers and men of Imo Police Command not to be deterred by the effect of #EndSARS protest but to remain undaunted in the fight against criminality.

The IGP spoke on Monday in Owerri through DCP Patrick Atayero, the leader of the IGP Evaluation Team that was on a two-day assignment to evaluate the extent of damage done to police facilities across the state.

Adamu also assured the Commissioner of Police in Imo, Isaac Akinmoyede, that the police command was not alone in the challenging time.

“You should not be deterred by the incidents of last few weeks, but you should continue in your quest to ensure the safety and security of the people.

“We came to tell you that you are not left alone in this challenging period; we have taken inventories of the extent of damage in Imo and I assure you that government is handling the issue,’’ he said.

The IGP said that the team did not only visit burnt police facilities but also injured officers as well as others who lost their property during the protest.

Responding, Akinmoyede thanked the IGP’s team for their efforts to complete the arduous task within a short period.

He commended Adamu for his support and morale-boosting posture, which he demonstrated by his personal visit to Imo and the subsequent visit of the evaluation team.

The police commissioner, who described the visit as remarkable, assured the IGP of the renewed efforts by the state police command to protect the lives and property of the residents of Imo.

During the visit, the team inspected 10 police divisional headquarters that were burnt during the protest and addressed the management team of the police command.
