FG to empower 20 youths living with disabilities – Minister

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, says the Federal Government will empower 20 youths living with disabilities from the North West zone to be self-reliant and discourage others from begging for alms.

 

The minister said via in a statement by Mrs. Lere-Adams Adjobome, the Director of Press in the ministry, on Tuesday in Abuja.

 

Dare said that the ministry, in collaboration with the governors of the seven states in the North West geopolitical zone, would organise an empowerment training programme in Kano State, to mentor and impart life enhancement skills on Youths Living with Disabilities (YLWDs).

 

According to him, the programme, which is targeted at YLWDs in the Northern zone, is also meant to increase the level of public awareness regarding the need to accommodate youths with disabilities who are aspiring to political offices.

 

He said that the programme would also ensure their participation in economic, social and cultural activities, with equal opportunities as other members of the society.

 

Dare said that the programme was designed for 120 YLWDs from the seven states of in the North West, comprising those with physiological (functional and/or mobility impairments), visual and hearing disabilities.
