Businessman in court for allegedly buying stolen iron rods

The police on Monday arraigned a businessman, Luka Madaki, 20, in an Upper Area Court in Zuba, FCT, for allegedly buying stolen iron rods worth over N1 million.

 

The police charged Madaki, who resides in Kubwa, Abuja, with receiving stolen property, contrary to the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal Code.

 

The police prosecutor, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the matter was reported at the Dutse Alhaji Police Station on Sept. 11 by the complainant, Okudu Joachra of Kubwa Extension III

 

He said that the defendant bought the iron rods worth over N1 million from two friends, Moses Okpara and Samuel Ahmed, who were standing trial for theft.

 

The prosecution alleged that the defendant bought the rods for N27, 500.

 

He told the court that the police had yet to recover the stolen rods.

 

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and the prosecutor prayed the court to fix a date for the hearing of the case.

 

The judge, Alhaji Gambo Garba, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
