Buhari meets ex-Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala at Aso Villa

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday had a meeting with the former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Okonjo-Iweala is contesting for the position of the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

She has already emerged as one of the final two candidates for the position and her visit to the Presidential Villa might not be unconnected with her efforts to clinch the WTO’s position.

From all indications, Okonjo-Iweala was in the Villa to seek the support from the president for her efforts to win the WTO election.

Some of the top government functionaries sighted at the venue of the meeting include Minister of Foreign Affairs Geofrey Onyeama, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Niyi Adebayo and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zubairu Dada.

It would be recalled that President Buhari nominated Okonjo–Iweala for the position on June 5.

Besides, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has endorsed her candidature for the post of director-general in WTO for the period between 2021 and 2025.
