The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lagos Command, says that it has arrested 228 drug offenders in the third quarter of 2020
The state NDLEA Commander, Mr Ralph Igwenagu, said this at a news conference on Thursday in Lagos.
He said that the 228 offenders were arrested between July and September.
Igwenagu said that 204, out of the 228 offenders, were males, while the remaining 24 were females, adding that they were arrested at various locations across Lagos State.
The commander also said that 145, out of the 228 arrested offenders, were suspected drug dealers and they had been charged to court for prosecution.
“However, the remaining 83 offenders, who were found to be drug users, were counselled and released.
“The counselled drug users are 79 males and four females,” he said.
He said that during the period under review, the command secured the conviction of 17 drug offenders in the state high courts, adding that the convicts, who included 16 males and one female, were now serving various jail terms.
Igwenagu said about 5.743 kilogrammes of various illicit drugs were seized from the dealers and their service centres across the state.
“The breakdown of the seized drugs is: Cannabis Sativa 5.682kg., cocaine 0.848kg., Heroin 0.101kg., Tramadol 47.869kg. and Exol-5 2.05kg.,” he said.
He vowed that the NDLEA command would not relent in its efforts to rid Lagos State of drug offenders.
