Two accountants, Kayode Akinlade and Omotayo Salami, were on Tuesday arraigned at a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja for allegedly stealing N12.1 million from their employer.
Akinlade, 53, and Salami,34, both of whom reside in the Oko-Oba area of Lagos State, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence between Sept. 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020 at Ebenezer Montessori School, Labak Estate, Oko-Oba.
Ajayi alleged that the defendants hacked into the school’s account and stole N12, 162, 000 belonging to their employer.
He said that their offences contravened Sections 287(7) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Ajibade, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N2 million each with two sureties each in like sum.
She, however, said that one of the sureties must own a landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.
She adjourned the case until Oct. 29 for mention.
