Governors to hold emergency teleconference over planned NLC strike

The 36 state governors are to hold an emergency meeting over plans by the Nigeria Labour Congress to start a nationwide workers’ strike to compel the Federal Government to rescind its decision to jerk up prices of petroleum products and electricity.

The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) disclosed this in a statement issued by its Head, Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, in Abuja on Wednesday.

Bello-Barkindo said that the emergency meeting, scheduled to hold on Thursday at 6 p.m., would seek ways of tackling the crisis and finding a mutual agreement.

He said that all governors were expected to attend the first NGF emergency virtual conference to consider the matter. which he described as a matter of urgent national importance.

Bello-Barkindo said that the matter ought to be quickly resolved in order not to worsen the already bad situation in the country, which was brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
