The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has promised to build a multi-million naira Chemotherapy Centre at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of UCH, Mr Toye Akinrinlola, made this known on Wednesday in Ibadan.
The Ooni made the promise when the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Jesse Otegbayo visited him at his palace in Ile-Ife.
The traditional ruler said that the centre would be built in partnership with other donors from the U. S.
“The rising cases of cancer in Nigeria calls for concern and action from all well-meaning individuals and corporate organisations in the country.
“I will call on my friends and well-wishers to join me in the completion of the centre,” the Ooni said.
Responding, Otegbayo appreciated the traditional ruler for his continued support.
The CMD called on affluent citizens and corporate organisations to aid efforts to take UCH to an enviable height.
Otegbayo expressed his determination to ensure that UCH offered world-class medical training, research and services.
The physical development of UCH, in its present site, started in 1953 and the teaching hospital complex was formally inaugurated in November 1957.
