Security agencies reassure Edo residents of peaceful election

Security agencies on Sunday reassured the people of Edo State of their commitment to ensuring peaceful and violence-free governorship election on Sept. 19.

The agencies gave the reassurance on the second day of their combined exercise, tagged “Inter Agencies Show of Force”.

Mr Chidi Nwabuzor, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Edo Command, who spoke to newsmen, said that the reassurance was considered necessary so as to allay the fears of the electorate.

Nwabuzor, a Superintendent of Police, said that with just six days to the election, political tension in the state had heightened, adding that there was, therefore, the need to restore confidence to the residents.

He urged the residents to be rest assured that the security agencies were up in their task of protecting and securing their lives, adding that they should all come out on Saturday to vote for candidate of their choice.

The security agencies which participated in the exercise include the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Customs Service, and the Directorate of State Services.

Others are the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigerian Air force, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigerian Correctional Service, the Nigerian Immigration Service, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
