Lagos Police Command deploys 1,000 officers for Edo governorship election

The Lagos State Police Command has deployed 1,000 officers to complement other security personnel that have been drafted for the Sept. 19 governorship election in Edo State.

The command disclosed this in Lagos on Sunday in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The statement said that the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, enjoined the officers from the command to be of good conduct, while exhibiting professionalism in discharging their duties during the Edo election.

Odumosu reiterated the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to sustain the core values of democracy in Nigeria through fair, free and credible elections.

He said that adequate incentives and welfare packages, as approved by the IGP, had been provided for the officers detailed for the special duty to encourage them and boost their morale.

The police commissioner advised the officers to protect themselves and avoid any acts that were capable of denting the image of the police or truncating the peaceful conduct of the governorship election.
