An Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, Jos, on Thursday sentenced a 22-year-old labourer, Francine Laurence, to three years’ imprisonment for stealing a cell phone worth N34,000.
The judge, Lawal Suleiman, sentenced Laurence, without an option to pay fine, after he pleaded guilty to stealing the phone.
Suleiman also ordered the convict to pay N30,000 as compensation to the owner of the phone.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp. Monday Dabit, told the court that the case was reported at the Jos North Police Station on Sept. 7 by the complainant, Ms. Mary Francis.
Dabit said that Laurence stole the phone from where the lady was charging it.
